The West Michigan Wood Turners met on Saturday June 8th at Portage Northern High School.  This is the last meeting until September.  The following items were discussed:
  • Volunteers are still needed to help with the demonstrations at Heartwick Pines Sate Park on the 3rd weekend in July and the 4th weekend in Aug.
  • The club was proud to award the $1500 AAW grant to the Portage Northern Wood Shop.  The grant was used to purchase wood turning tools and new chuck.
  • The Three Rivers Show is coming up this fall (early October), prepare some better art type works for this show.
  • Leaon Fynn will be demonstrating at the Fort Wayne Club this fall.  He is noted enhancing wood turnings with various carvings.
  • Some 1/2 gal wax emulsions canisters are still available, see Tim.
  • Several of current and former club members, who have decided it is time to give up wood turning will be selling their equipment.  Keep checking this site for further details.
  • Bill Chapman - one of our members - recently won a $500 prize  in the Grand Rapids Art Prize Show.
  • Jerry Kroehn and George Armstrong demonstrated the art of liming to enhance wood turnings -see Photo above.
  • A large number of wood samples and other items were raffled off.
  • The meeting concluded with the usual show and tell.
