June 2010

  • The June 2010 meeting was held at the West Portage Middle School, Jerry Kroehn reminded the club that we will not meet in July and August.  Our next meeting will be on the 2nd Saturday in Sept at West Portage Middle School, we should be back at Portage Northern in their new shop in the Spring of 2011.
  • An election of Officers was held and George Armstrong volunteered to be Vice President.  He resigned from the program chair position.  Therefore, we need someone to serve as program chair and organize demonstrations at our monthly meetings.
  • The club as lost some members due to the organization of other clubs in the outlying areas.  We need to be aware of the importance of attracting new members.  The consensus was for the club to print brochures and for these to be available each time a club member enters a show or gives a demonstration.  Jerry Kroehn noted that he should have some old brochures and will see about printing new ones.
  • The needs more people willing to put on demonstrations.  Now about 6 people are putting on most of the demonstrations.
  • Phylllis Yount, the Treasurer, reported that the club has a balance of $2,749.26.
  • It was noted that the library is very bulky and we are looking forward to have a permanent storage location once we can again meet at Portage Northern.
  • Dick Wilson present a demonstration on carving using a variety of techniques.
  • Several members had brought items for the show and tell, which again feature somexcellent work.
  • The challenge was items altered turnings and Tim Florin's work on a ball contained in a cage received the most votes.
  • We look forward to our next meeting in Sept.
