September 11, 2010 Meeting

  • Welcome back and introduction of new members
  • Next Meeting, Oct 2; Because of the regional cross-country meet, the October meeting will be on Oct 2.
  • Hardwick Outreach program was very successful thanks to George, Ed and Jerry.  This was a good venture to sell low cost items and expand the interest in woodturning.
  • We need to find the banner and will also have a new 3’x6’ one made.
  • The move into the new shop at Portage Northern HS will likely not happen until spring break 2011.  This shop will have excellent audio-visual capability and allow us to host more national known turners.
  • We are trying to organize a turning symposium this spring and have contacted several national turners.
  • Northwest Woodturners in Traverse City will host Nittman on 10/9/10.
  • George Armstrong will demonstrate his home built rose engine at Ft Wayne on Oct 3.  The Ft Wayne club will reciprocate at a future date.
  • Our mentor list is being revised.
  • AAW:  For the 25th anniversary AAW has asked each club to enter an 8x8x8 inch turning.   Unless a unique collaborative design is suggested, the club will select by vote the representative work from one of our members.
  • Two additions to the library are:
    1. Book:  81D Woodburing with Style by Siman Eastra
    2. DVD 82D Turning Bowls by Richard Raffin.
  • Next meeting bring wood for exchange.
